| This past Thursday, July 30, Anshei Lubavitch of Fair Lawn welcomed a brand-new sefer Torah with a grand siyum sefer Torah ceremony and celebration. This siyum sefer Torah was a momentous occasion not only for the congregation receiving the Torah, but for the entire community. The ceremony included a joyous procession in which community members accompanied the new sefer Torah to its new home. Campers from Anshei Lubavitch Day Camp were thrilled to take part in the celebration, proudly waving colorful flags and marching alongside the sefer Torah in a joyful parade |

| One of the best ways to tangibly demonstrate kindness is with some tasty food. Rabbi Avi Zwiebel and his wife, Faigy Zwiebel, of Ashland’s Chabad Jewish Center of Southern Oregon have begun putting this idea into practice through the “Chabad Kitchen of Kindness,” a service whose mission is to prepare meals, package them, and deliver them to those in need. The Kitchen kicked off its efforts July 16, inviting people to help via email. Those in attendance helped with meal prep, packaging, and delivery to homes throughout Southern Oregon that are within an hour of Ashland. |

| On the southern edge of San Francisco’s Mission District, there stands a massive cream, mint green and terra cotta edifice that has served the city’s mourners for more than a century. The two-story Mediterranean-style building at 1465 Valencia St. has been a mortuary since it was built in 1915. But in April it held its final funeral, just a few weeks after Chabad of Noe Valley purchased the space with plans to transform it into the largest Chabad center in San Francisco. The Hasidic outreach movement has seven other centers in the city and dozens more across Northern California. |

| The first permanent Jewish community centre and synagogue opened in Innisfil July 26. Rabbi Zevi Kaplan said Chabad Innisfil held its first event at the main library branch — a menorah lighting — in December 2021. The community continued to meet in homes and sometimes rented space for its religious gatherings. But now it finally has a permanent home at 1090 Line 6, just west of St. Johns Road. “It was a lot of work. There were lots of miracles along the way and lots of obstacles that we had to overcome. But nothing good comes without challenges,” Kaplan said. |

| Moldova is about to inaugurate a chief rabbi after 12 years of the role being unfilled, Rabbi Zushe Abelsky, head Chabad shliach in Moldova, told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday. Rabbi Menachem Mendel Axelrod has been chief rabbi of the country in an unofficial capacity for the last decade. Most of his children have been born in the country, and Abelsky said he is a “very well-known figure in the community” who “everybody likes.” Axelrod was elected by all streams of Judaism in Moldova. He will represent the country’s community in an international and legal capacity. |

| B’nai Abraham Chabad joined many other Jewish organizations in Center City at Mikveh Israel’s Jewish America 250 event July 26. Many visitors had the opportunity to wrap tefillin and say a prayer. |

| Jewish life is bubbling forth in Greenfield. After nearly five years of construction, two new mikvahs are slated to open in the coming weeks. Located at B’nai Emunoh Chabad, the men’s and women’s ritual baths will enable community members to easily adhere to religious practices, B’nai Emunoh’s Rabbi Elchonon Friedman explained. Trekking to the Lubavitch Center, which has a men’s mikvah, or the Denniston Street facility, which has a women’s mikvah, could be a four-mile schlep. Walking to either site from Greenfield on Shabbat is “cumbersome,” Friedman said. |

| More than 2,000 Chabad Hasidim from Israel, the United States, Europe, and reportedly Iran converged this week on Almaty, Kazakhstan, to honor the grave of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, the father of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, on the anniversary of his death on the 20th of Av on the Jewish calendar. The pilgrimage represents a remarkable feat of Jewish diaspora devotion: thousands traveling through multiple Muslim-majority countries, the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, to reach a grave in Central Asia. |

| Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac will begin writing its first community Torah scroll on Sunday, marking a historic milestone. The Torah Writing Inauguration event will be held August 9, at 10 a.m. and will mark the start of a project to unite the local Jewish community for generations to come, said Rabbi Kopel Silberberg of Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac. A professional sofer, or Torah scribe, will write the first letters of the new Torah scroll, and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the ancient mitzvah by assisting in the writing of a letter under the scribe’s guidance. |

The festival brought together families and community members from throughout Columbia County and the surrounding region for an afternoon of Jewish culture, live entertainment, kosher food and family fun. |

| The sixth annual St. Charles Jewish Festival returns Sunday, Aug. 9 with live entertainment, authentic kosher foods, family activities and cultural experiences. Hosted by the Chabad Jewish Center of St. Charles County and The Gan St. Charles Preschool in partnership with St. Charles City, all are welcome at this free festival that has grown into one of the region's largest celebrations of Jewish culture. More than 4,000 people attended last year's event and organizers expect another strong turnout this year. |

| On Sunday, July 19, I had the pleasure of meeting with Chabad of Montecito Executive Director, Rabbi Chaim Loschak and his wife Mushkie on the birth of their child Bracha Leah. Leah joins her brother Yosef, and sisters, Nechama, Chana, and Shaina. It also provided an opportunity to talk with Rabbi Chaim on the recent gift of a Torah for Chabad of Montecito by the Ruimy Family. A celebration of the new Torah is planned for August 9. Indeed, very mamish! |

He spent the next six or seven months engaging Jews in the area and building up programs, like a monthly women’s gathering to celebrate the latest Jewish holiday and a monthly men’s get-together to wrap tefillin. The Chabad of Cherry Hill West is now renting a large space on the bottom floor of an office building on Chapel Avenue. |

| The Jewish community came together in Innisfil over the weekend to celebrate the grand opening of a new Jewish Community Centre. Chabad Innisfil will be home for the community including a place for prayer, learning, children’s education, community gatherings, connection, celebration and more. Rabbi Zevi Kaplan and his family are excited to finally open the centre. “Very fortunate, very blessed. We’re very thankful for the almighty for bringing us to this day,” said Rabbi Kaplan. “Every member of our community is a part of it, and everybody helped make it happen.” |
